Was just thinking about a few bands recently that upon listening to them on earlier releases failed to ignite any interest from me but have grown musically to release some of the best lp's of the last few years. I can remember years ago listening to Anti-Flag and thinking they were just another new generic sounding band but their last couple of releases have been fantastic. Other bands that have ignited my interest on later releases have been The Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, Against Me and The Swingin Utters. In their later years they have all released lp's that I consider to be some of the best of the last few years. Any bands that you just found Ok in the beginning but now have totally changed your opinion on them?

Similar to Kenny there are a few Anarcho bands that I initially gave a bodyswerve to, but now I'm quite impressed with. It's usually the other way around for me. Initially blown away only to find nothing of worth when I delve back in years later. The first time I heard the Dwarves I thought they were terrible and avoided them like the plague for years. When I did hear them again I didn't recognize them, but that's probably because they sound nothing like how they started. Now I have the early stuff, but it's more about being a completest rather than being well into it. I much prefer what they became. I'll have to think about others. I've written often enough about just not getting Jeff Buckley for years and then it just clicked, but I'll have to get my thinking cap on re punk bands.

Lots - main one is Billy Childish. Thought he was a pretentious annoying arse with male clone fans all sporting huge moustaches. Went to see Spizz in 2006 for a punk aid gig. Fallen Leaves also played - loved them. They love Mr Childish's music. This year I went to one of his gigs & loved it. Beginning to sound like a right tree hugger with all this 'love'

El D is right, I was always into the Oi stuff or GBH clones. I only listened to Conflict but after hearing those Anarcho series that Overground put out, I discovered many amazing bands like Omega Tribe, Zounds, Mob, Lack Of Knowledge, Subhumans, etc.
I'd have to say a band that I did not get at first was The Only Ones. Aside from the amazing Another Girl Another Planet (why don't the Buzzcocks cover this masterpiece???). All of their first three albums are amazing

Quote: Aside from the amazing Another Girl Another Planet (why don't the Buzzcocks cover this masterpiece???). They have their own masterpeices Have you seen that film 'Different for Girls' where Buzzers are doing a live gig & the two main characters dance in a very cringeworthy way to AGAP on the same night? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116102/Quote: Karl Foyle (Steven Mackintosh) and Paul Prentice (Ropert Graves) were best mates at school in the Seventies. But when they meet again in present-day London things are definitely not the same. Karl is now Kim, a transsexual, and she has no desire to stir up the past while she's busy forging a neat and orderly new life. Prentice, on the other hand, has charm but is a social disaster stuck in a dead-end job. His main talent is for getting them both into trouble. Amid the squabbles, they start to fall in love. One night, Kim invites Prentice to a romantic dinner at her flat. Prentice, finding the seduction unexpectedly effective, freaks out. He proceeds to make a public display of both of them and winds up in court. Humiliated and angry, Kim runs away. Only she can save Prentice now, but will true love triumph for a new made woman and an aging punk?

Void. Absolutely hated them on the first few listens, but when it clicked it really clicked. I love this band, probably a total noise to some, but I still play them today.
Tool. Creepy repetative noise at first, but a constant from their first release to date. Incredible live band.
Meat Puppets. Turgid noise on first listening, but what an evolution into so many styles, all of them great.
Frank Zappa. OMG/WTF. Love the guy, a real musical genius.
Slint - arty crap that had no real substance or flow to it. Again once they clicked with me I really got it. A very under-rated band.

Shelley, I do agree that The Buzzcocks have many classics. But that song is sooo good I would love to hear how The Buzzcocks would do with it.

That's a shame, I went the opposite way with Against Me! The Acoustic EP and Crime As Forgiven by were my favorites by a large margin, then Reinventing Axl Rose by another large margin, although I did listen to As The Eternal Cowboy a lot when I bought it and still have a place for it every once in awhile, but really I felt like after Reinventing Axl Rose they started to blend into the crowd so to speak. But after obviously heartfelt songs like "Pints of Guiness Make You Strong" and the strong lyrical work of songs like "Walking Is Still Honest" (the version on the Crime EP has always been my favorite AM! song) I just can't really listen to New Wave, it doesn't really have any of the qualities that made them stand out to me. But if you never liked their early stuff I could understand why you'd like New Wave.
I'm happy to see Slint! Spiderland is one of my favorite albums, I'd say top 3 but I say that too often I think, definitely for more than 3 albums haha.
Aside from that Neu! and Can have both become favorites from that time period very recently, and actually just earlier today I finally gave Pere Ubu a chance and fell in love very quickly. Fugazi is another similar story where I much prefered Minor Threat originally and didn't get Fugazi as much, now I almost never play Minor Threat and listen to Fugazi all the time. And I've known of all those bands since my early days on Talkpunk.
Built To Spill is another band that I heard long ago and didn't get the hype about, I play the album Perfect From Now On basically daily now and really enjoy most of their other material. And I don't know if this one will be that popular but I never gave Radiohead a chance because their fans (millions and millions of them it seemed) all turned me off of them by praising them constantly and in such strong words, but after forgetting my preconceptions and listening to them by myself one day I do really like their music.

Been a fair few over the years, but the first band I ever saw live (first support act to the Clash), a local band, were fecking awful imo...grew to be a huge fan of them...namely the Skids
