Good match last night, a tight game with both teams going for it. Noticed that BBC News said Uruguay equalised against the run of play....not sure that was true. Though third place matches are a bit pointless, a lot better than most games in this so so World Cup.
On the plus side I won't have to put up with Chiles and Co anymore!

Pretty poor ending to a pretty poor World Cup. For the most part the football lacked any real quality and looked like it was being played by people scared to risk anything, rather than the super confident personas we see in Nike ads etc.

Well here's my quick view of the tournament....
Good
Spain - The winners - sneaked all the way to the final Germany - best team in the tournament Japan - best team to watch apart from the above, lots of good enthusiastic players who didn't look scared to have a go Diego Forlan - lead Uruguay to the semi-finals by example, best player on show for me Carlos Tevez - For that goal
Bad
Wayne Rooney's contempt for the fans after they had the temerity to boo after his (and the whole England team's) shameful performance against Alegeria....yes they've only paid thousands to watch that kind of dreck you served up and they expect an opinion? What a stupid childish jerk Rooney is
France - Whole team never looked like it wanted to be there - Vied with England and Italy for the Biggest washout award.
Brazil's defence - their Achilles Heel
ITV's coverage - Amateurish
Those bloody horns - I hope if you see any of them over here you will do the decent thing and snap them over your knee

I wouldn't have a great deal to add to that Ian, except maybe to add something in the Bad list about Ronaldo. Oh, and definitely something about the Beeb's features on "the rich footballers mingling with the poor Africans". Ham fisted attempts at social commentary at their most cringeworthy.

Back from the dead? Well almost.... Was in a little town called Beddgellert in Wales and watched the semis & finals in a local pub there. Can't say I was verfy objective on the night, and devastated that we lost... So close & yet so far. Robben had the chance 20 mintes from regular time...
On the other hand: Spain were the better team, and deserved to win. Holland was a fighting team all along in the tournamant & in the final that was all that was left. They fought and fought dirty. International press called it a disgrace, I must admit they were mostly right.
Still. Three lost finals. In '88 when we won the European Cup with great players and good football- our finest our.... Seems like a footnote in history now or a consolation prize.
36 years of history. Will we go down as the Jimmy White of football?
